1:18 Welly Bentley Continental Supersports
Welly is not known for making a high end, good quality model car. Thats when i saw the Bentley Continental Supersports for sale, I thought that the model would not be as good as the car deserved its model to be. However, I was pleasantly surprised.
Firstly, it is an extremely good model for a budget brand. The little details that I like on my models are present. Such as the small “Supersports” badge in front of the doors at the bottom. The engine is extremely good for a budget model. The engine has a very decent depth and has the “Bentley” wording over the engine cover which is a nice touch. Also, the engine hood has a few vents that are not cut out but still look good. The rims are well done with the “B” on it. Another very nice touch for a budget model, is that the brake discs actually move with the wheel. Usually on budget models, it just stays static, and on more expensive models, it moves with the rim. Thus, this was a really nice feature for Welly to add in. The windows on this model is also all the way up which is extremely unusual for a budget model to have. This is usually only on premium models. The interior is where this budget model really shines, not only is it really good for Welly, its good for more premium brands. All of the little buttons are in place and the speedometer and other things are clearly displayed. Also, the proportions are correct, usually something that budget models have a problem with. If there was carpets, people could think that this model is worth much more than it actually is. It would also make the car more realistic.
However, there are some con’s, the paint is not that good, even for a budget model. It has loads of marks that simply cannot come off. The front lights are awful, the paint(in black) was not applied correctly and thus it is on the white paint, the black paint looks awful. The vents are not photo-etched and thus do not look that good. However, as this is a budget model, I cant really be upset. The working suspension for this model is very poor, it works fine in the rear but up front, it is almost as if it is not existent. Even on budget models, the suspension usually works perfectly fine.
Overall, the model is very good for a model that is under $100. However, Welly could have made it even better by adding carpets and fixing all of the paint problems. I would be fine if do that and increase the price marginally, because even then, it would still be cheaper than a premium brand for such a good model.
