DC118 (Diecast Cars 118) |
So, you're new here?
I’m glad that you came here as a source of information for your new Hobby, 1:18 scaled Diecast model cars!
Through this post, i will guide you through the basics! Firstly, decide on what scale you would want to collect. As you know i am a 1:18 collector but the other major scale is 1:43 and some people with loads of space collect 1:12. You might be wondering what the difference is between the numbers. To put it simply, the smaller the number, the larger the car, and vice-versa. 1:43 is a very good scale to keep many cars in a small amount of space. Also manufactures introduce new models quicker to 1:43 than to 1:18. The downside is that most of these model do not have any functioning parts. Moving to my preferred scale, 1:18. The range for 1:18 models can go anywhere from $35 to over $1000.
There are 2 main types of 1:18 scale models, resin and diecast. Usually, resin models cant be opened at all and are expensive, diecast models usually can open and can be expensive but not that expensive when compared to the resin models. I usually split the models into 2 categories, budget and non-budget. Budget brands include Maisto, Bburago, Welly and Hotwheels to name a few. All of these brands, their models are pretty good and will look decent on the shelf you store them on. The paint quality and other things, such as the interior and engine detail, will not be as good as a more expensive brands.
This then leads me onto the more expensive brands that have very good detail and are more expensive. Brands like Hotwheels Elite, Autoart,Kyosho and Minichamps. These models cost much more but feature much better detail and working features such as pop up headlights and workable rear spoilers. Features like this on a budget model would just be stuck to the model and not a working feature. Also the interior would most likely be carpeted and the interior would have much better details for the little buttons on the real car.
My personal policy is that if a budget manufacturer makes a model and the premium modeler does so too, i would buy the budget one and sacrifice the details as for the same price as the expensive model i could buy 3 budget model which i rather do.
