DC118 (Diecast Cars 118) |
Who started this hobby?
Diecast model cars as we know it today have really moved on from 30 to 40 years ago. Back then, finding a 1:18 scale model would be next to impossible. If you were lucky, when you found one, it would be very expensive and not have much good detail. Thus, the smaller scaled models, like scales 1:43, were much more popular with the children of that generation. Brands like Corgi from the UK started to get into the market making models that were popular in the 1950's. The models were much not detailed at all but they had a few opening parts for a person to look at. I interviewed my Dad asking him about all this. He also told me that he had kept some of the models. He dug it out and i took some pictures. The pictures show a bunch of his models. As you can see, they open up but with extremely limited detail and depth for the model. The models on show were some of the more popular models that came about in my father's time. The condition is not that good because they have been around for such a long time.
Reflecting on the way model car making has come is incredible. The detail that is found on some models is incredible. Like my Rolls Royce Ghost by Kyosho, with all its working features would have been impossible in my father's time period. Looking into the future, I can only hope that the detail of models get even more realistic and maybe we could see more realistic working parts in functionality.
